Norwalk Police learned of the incident when a man called 911around noon on Wednesday, March 27, from the Red Carpet Inn at 469 Westport Ave., saying that another man had choked him, left, and may have a gun and that he was coming back to the room, said Norwalk Police Sgt. Sofia Guilno.
Officers responded immediately, taking positions around the perimeter of the location. A key was obtained from the management of the facility. As officers were preparing to enter the room, the victim exited, Gulino said.
The victim told officers that the man and the victim had fallen asleep at about 1:30 a.m., then at 5:30 a.m., the victim was woken when the male had his hands around the victim’s throat, she said.
The male picked up the victim by the neck, placing the victim in a chair. The victim began to try to escape, the male slapped the victim. The victim alleges that the male sexually assaulted him, threatened to beat the victim if the victim tried anything funny, and left on foot, Gulino said.
Officers were able to obtain the name of Juan Reyes, 32, of the Bronx, as the suspect from hotel management and began to search the area for him based on the victim’s description.
Reyes was located at a Kentucky Fried Chicken and taken into custody without incident and transported to Norwalk Police headquarters.
The Norwalk Detective Division took over the crime scene for processing of evidence. Reyes had .113 ounces of marijuana when searched, but officers did not find a gun.
Reyes was charged with strangulation, threatening, possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana, and disorderly conduct. He was held on $100,000 bond.
The case is still actively being investigated.
